Just A Taste (Permanently Legless)
Permanently Legless By J.L Merrow
I’m
a die-hard sucker for narrative voice. That working stiff voice, edging on blue
collar is a powerful thing. Ms. Merrow tends to spice it up with a first person
narrative riddled in self-deprecation and it works. “Permanently Legless” is
just a small taste of an excellent writer where she has her characters
revisiting a one-night stand with all the potentials of “what ifs” and “maybes.”
But to truly appreciate where Ms. Merrow can excel in voice and story (or just
to laugh until it become a painful thing or you lose bladder control—one or the
other—it’s a toss up) follow “Permanently Legless” with “Muscling Through.” One
is a taste the other is the meal.
