by Linda Tirado
Linda Tirado offers us an amazing
narrative, filled with humor and at time a totally justifiable, though somewhat impotent, rage. She spoke to me on so many levels. Evoking my empathy on so
many others. Ms. Tirado’s words said things I felt and could hardly, when it
mattered, elucidate. I love words and sometimes (more often than I care to
admit) find myself fumbling for ways to express myself. I have one marketable
skill, I’m an educator by trade and it really is not as white collared as it
appears on the surface. Words should come easy, but sometimes I pause and miss
the moment.
I carry
the burden of this shortcoming in the moments when I should have advocated and
fell silent.
With her
words Ms. Tirado advocates for the silent. This reminder of how we each struggles
is important. Her words are intelligent and articulate and that should have
paved her way to a better life. Well, in a way it did. Her words are out there
for the world to read. And we hope for her and for us that the struggle with
the everyday minutia is over.
